What are box beams?
Box beams are hollow, custom-fabricated beams designed to replicate the look of solid timber without the weight or structural requirements of real timbers.

They’re built to wrap around an existing ceiling structure or mounting cleat, creating the appearance of a full wood beam while remaining lightweight and easy to install. Because they’re made from real wood, every box beam has its own grain, texture, and character that simply can’t be replicated with manufactured materials.
Why do people install box beams?
Homeowners choose box beams to achieve the look of solid, architectural wood beams without the cost, weight, or structural challenges of true timbers.

In a world built largely from drywall and dimensional lumber, box beams bring back the warmth and depth of traditional timber-framed homes. They add visual interest, define spaces, and introduce character that modern construction often lacks.

Because they’re hollow, box beams can also accommodate practical needs like lighting, wiring, and fixtures.
What is reclaimed wood?
Reclaimed wood is lumber recovered from old barns, factories, homes, and historic structures, often built decades or even centuries ago.

One of the greatest advantages of reclaimed wood is that it frequently comes from old-growth trees. These trees grew slowly over many decades, producing tighter grain, greater density, and a strength and beauty rarely found in modern lumber.

Time adds even more character through natural patina, deeper tones, and subtle markings. Because this material can’t be recreated, every reclaimed beam is truly one of a kind.
Where does the wood come from?
Our reclaimed wood comes from historic farmsteads and long-standing communities across the country.

Early builders used what was available on their land, and decades of regional weather shaped each board. Sun, wind, rain, snow, and temperature left behind texture, variation, and a sense of place that can never be mass produced.

It’s a level of character that only time can create.
What about pests and mold?
Any small holes or markings you may notice are almost always from insects that lived in the wood decades ago, long before it was reclaimed. They’re part of the wood’s history, not an active issue.

Modern indoor environments are generally unfriendly to pests and fungal growth. As an added precaution, we treat our reclaimed wood with a borate solution, a widely used and low-toxicity method for preventing insects, mold, and fungus.

The treatment penetrates the wood fibers without changing the appearance, giving you the beauty of reclaimed wood without the risks people often worry about.
Do you only build beams from reclaimed wood?
Not at all. While reclaimed wood is our specialty, we can build beams from new lumber as well.

We’ll help you choose the right material based on your desired look, species, and budget, whether that’s reclaimed wood, new lumber, or a blend of both.
Are new lumber beams cheaper?
Sometimes, but it depends on the scope of the project and the species selected.

New lumber can start at a lower material cost, but it often requires additional finishing work to achieve a refined look. That added labor can offset material savings. Our goal is to help you achieve the look you want in the most cost-effective way possible.
Do you offer installation services?
Yes. We offer full-service support from design through installation.

By staying involved throughout the process, we eliminate miscommunication and reduce delays that can happen when multiple contractors are involved. The result is a smoother experience and a finished project that looks exactly the way you envisioned.
Can you fabricate beams without installation?
Absolutely. We’re happy to custom-build beams to your specifications if you already have an installation plan or contractor in place.

Because we also install our own work, we’re able to design beams that install smoothly and communicate clearly with your installer if needed.
Do you also build mantels and accent walls?
Yes. In addition to beams, we design and build mantels, accent walls, ceiling details, and other interior wood features.

We approach these elements with the same level of craftsmanship and care, creating cohesive spaces that feel intentional and built to last. Think of it as a farm-to-table approach to interior wood design.
